I just love this ammollite piece, it is large just over 3" long

ammolite is one of the hardest stones to photograph because it flashes as it moves and you will see different colors at different angles - I was going for primative petroglyph-style human form on this one... I live near a place called writing on stone and on a recent visit saw the carvings in the sandstone and was inspired because this kind of shimmery colored ammolite only comes from one place in the world in Southern Alberta.   It was recently given status as a gemstone, and it is so rare that collectors can see a time when there will be no more of them.  Metaphysically the stone is highly prized by Feng Shui Masters and Buddhist Monks visit the area often to purchase the stones for temples and healing purposes ... the Asians call it skin of the dragon.  The First Nations people value it as a healing stone and a hunting stone.   For a time I worked in an ammolite processing studio and what was most interesting is that when I was working with the stones I had tremendous energy, did not get hungry sore or tired and it was not easy work cutting stones all day; at the end of the day i would be so tired i often had to go nap .... the following site has more info some of which is quoted below  http://www.universallifetools.com/2012/02/crystal-healing-ammolite/

The Ammonites which create Ammolite once inhabited an inland sea (the Western Interior Seaway) that split the continent of North America in half during the mid to late Cretaceous Period (between 65 and 100 million years ago). As the seas gradually receded, the Ammonites were covered in layers of bentonite clay. This sedimental clay preserved the shells of the Ammonites, inhibiting their conversion into calcite.

Ammolites have historically been used by native peoples of North America as amulets to assist with hunting and for use in ceremonial work for healing.  In more recent times, Feng Shui practitioners have used Ammolite to promote prosperity, well-being and improve the flow of ‘chi’.

In nature, the Ammolite shell forms a spiral referred to as the  ‘golden mean spiral’ which is a mathematical representation of the fibonacci sequence of numbers.  This mathematical sequence is the foundation upon which nature continually expands and evolves. Thus Ammolite, as a direct conduit of the energetics of golden mean spiral, is a sacred gemstone which we can work with for our own personal awakening and for the evolutionary consciousness of the planet.
